Fall Means Letting Go

Fall means letting go.

Change is a part of nature, yet we are so resistant to it. To me, fall is all about letting go. It allows for shedding. If leaves were to hold on in winter they would break. Letting go is beautiful. Releases expectation, burdens. It is a necessary part of a cycle of growth. Instead of holding on, it allows for a new way of being. Maybe naked, but quiet, sure and steady. Flexible. Snow can no longer create a burden, but falls gently to the ground through branches. Fall can be seen as death and dying. But it is survival. Releasing burdens feels like freedom. There is an inner knowing that it is the best thing. Seasons are a beautiful thing to celebrate. I am taking voice lessons and the lesson that keeps coming up is to let go. Release air, release tension, release emotion. Let go and rise and be free to express without the burden of huge effort. It is a constant battle because there needs to be support yet there is a fine line of too much stiffness and trying too hard. It is also a lesson for life as well. By releasing, there is beauty and a clear tone that can be created that cannot happen any other way. It is frustrating that it can’t just be forced to happen. Force in any sense creates an awful noise. Not nice or pleasant. Somewhat tolerable maybe, but not nearly as sweet. You cannot force love. You cannot force patience. You cannot force kindness. Life and nature and voice lessons are about grace and letting go. Release the burdens, let go of tension, stop trying so hard and just allow things to happen. There is a beauty and softness and lovely stillness that can come with releasing and allowing that would not have been there otherwise. Sometimes there is nothing to do but let go.
