When I first heard the song

I'm Ready by David Archuleta

, I thought it was interesting that there was a different voice at the end. I wasn’t sure who it was and I didn’t see a description. At first I thought it was someone’s demo tape that they had sent him to sing, and that he wanted to include it at the end. But that is not the case. It turns out that while David was writing this song before his mission, He needed some help with the ending. He asked his friend, Annie Schmidt to help him with it. They worked on it together and put a few ideas together that they recorded so he could listen to them later. Then David left on his mission and Annie went on a hike in the Oregon Mountains where she passed away from a fall. He included this portion in his song as a tribute to her.

This is what he says about it:

“I had a recording of her as she was helping me go through ideas, and that’s who you hear at the end of the song,” Archuleta says. “I felt like this was the best way I could pay tribute to her and keep her legacy moving forward.”

There is a special person, Mary Pitt, who passed away this week. I think about her and her life. She had touched so many. She had such a beautiful smile and was always so kind and encouraging. I remember her loving to go on long walks. While on these walks She would sometimes bring us cookies or come for a short visit. She had many struggles and yet, she bore them courageously. I admire her testimony, and the way she shared herself with others. Though it has been a while since I have seen her last, I am so happy to call her my friend. She was a light that will be missed.

Here are the Lyrics:

[Chorus]I’m ready, I’m ready for a changeI’m not afraid to lose and leave it all behindAnd I know that I can’t see around the bendBut if I let you in, I know I’ll be alright[Verse 1]Oh, I keep going and goingEven if they all stop, I keep goingDoesn’t matter who’s watching or notEither way I’ll give it all I’ve got'Cause I’ve only got one life to liveYeah, I’ve only got one life to giveAnd I know it’s gonna change the ending[Chorus]I’m ready, I’m ready for a changeI’m not afraid to lose and leave it all behindAnd I know that I can’t see around the bendBut if I let you in, I know I’ll be alright[Verse 2]I’ve been thinking ‘bout getting at the roadBeen thinking ‘bout the doors I’ve closedBut I know you left one openWhen my heart was feeling brokenThere’s a name you can only breatheThere’s a love you can never seeAnd I know it’s gonna change the ending[Chorus]I’m ready, I’m ready for a changeI’m not afraid to lose and leave it all behindAnd I know that I can’t see around the bendBut if I let you in, I know I’ll be alright[Bridge]Hold me just a minuteHold me just a minuteCan you hold me just a minute now?Hold me just a minuteHold me just a minuteCan you hold me just a minute now?Hold me just a minute (hold me)Hold me just a minute (hold me)Can you hold me just a minute now?I'ma say yeahGonna get on my way now'Cause when I get thereOh, who knows how it’ll end?But I know that I’ll get there[Chorus]I’m ready, I’m ready for a changeI’m not afraid to lose and leave it all behindAnd I know that I can’t see around the bendBut if I let you in, I know I’ll be alrightI’m ready, I’m ready for a changeI’m not afraid to lose and leave it all behindAnd I know that I can’t see around the bendBut if I let you in, I know I’ll be alright[Outro]It’s a long journey aheadI know the road is longBut if I just put one foot in front of the otherLike you were all supposed to beYou'll stay next to meOoh ooh oohStay next to me, oh oh
